Colorectal cancer cases are steadily increasing across the globe. The rising cases in younger population <40 year of age has already became the important concern.
There are non-modifiable risk factors like age, family history, genetics and inflammatory bowel disease. Modifiable risk factors like obesity, sedentary life style, lack of fibre in diet are the grave concern. Because of these modifiable risk factors which are more common in developed countries, it is also called a “western life style disease”.
To reduce risk of colorectal cancer, everyone should work on healthy life style and follow following instructions:
- Avoid smoking and alcohol consumption which are carcinogenic.
- Avoid high-calorie foods, red and processed meat to reduce the risk of colon and rectal cancer.
- Regularly engage in moderate intensity exercise for at least 30 minutes.
- Keep a healthy weight to reduce your risk of CRC.
- Eat a diet rich in vegetables, fruits and whole grains which are high in fiber’s.
