Why we remove gall bladder for gall stone but don’t remove kidney for kidney stones?
It is very common question arising in the mind of patient when we suggest to remove gall bladder for gall stones.
It is important to understand the difference of anatomy and functioning of kidney and gall bladder to understand this.
- Gall bladder is working as a storage of bile ,which is produce by liver
So even when gall bladder is removed, bile secretion continue from liver
- Passage of bile from gall bladder to intestine is through a common channel connecting the liver, gall bladder and pancreas also.
So when gall stone moves out of gall bladder it can create major issues like Obstructive jaundice, pancreatitis
- Gall stones are formed due to malfunctioning of gall bladder wall
So if only gall stones removed from gall bladder, it will recur within 3 to 6 months
So gall bladder is the culprit for gall stone formation
On the contrary
- Kidney itself is important organ for excretion of waste from body
So if you remove kidney there is a major issue.
- Passage of urine from kidney is a separate system so in the event of stone ,it doesn’t harm any other system of body
- Kidney stones are formed by inadequate water intake, excess oxalates, calcium so mainly kidney is not the culprit for kidney stone
